My Story

Pateke Pottery was established in 2023. I discovered a passion for pottery after taking a pottery class at Otaki Pottery Club in 2022. I quickly became hooked on the creative process and love making products with strong visual impact using colour, texture and shape.

My Process

Every one of my pieces is unique. I create my pieces using a range of both hand-building and wheel methods.

 

My favourite part of the creative process is glazing - mixing and matching colour to create unique, and sometimes surprising results. Opening the kiln to see what beauty lies within never loses its magic. I have two little studio "helpers" - cats Izzy and Indie - who perform quality control over my work.

My inspiration

Working from my garden studio in Paraparaumu Beach, I draw inspiration from the land and sea for my ceramic art.

 

My love of the ocean is evident in many of the pieces I create. If not inspired by the ocean, my pieces are likely to have drawn inspiration from my love of my garden, the outdoors, and all creatures great and small.
